A farmer is travelling with a fox, a sheep and a small sack of hay. He comes to a river with a small boat in it. The boat can only support the farmer and one other animal/item. If the farmer leaves the fox alone with the sheep, the fox will eat the sheep. And if the farmer leaves the sheep alone with the hay, the sheep will eat the hay.
How can the farmer get all three as well as himself safely across the river?
fox then the hay then the sheep
Can you explain why Mary? Good to see you blogging!
We have tried to send you a video of the solution ….
I know …we watched it! Can I upload it here? Mrs M
Put the hay like a bridge across the river and the sheep go across the hay then the fox go across.
it will be the fox first then the hay and then at last the sheep
Mr Farner takes the sheep across the river then he goes back for the bale of hay and leaves the bale on the island and takes the sheep back with him ,then he leaves the sheep and takes the fox to the bale of hay ,and then he return alone to get the sheep and crosses the river to the fox and the bale of hay.
we worked it out the same as paige taking the sheep first then the hay and going back with the sheep to get the fox, leave the sheep and take the fox then go back again for the sheep.
It’s so good to see you looking at other people’s answers and using them to help your thinking. Have you posted this answer in the box? Mr E
I found the answer I will post it in the box!!!
The sheep first because the fox won’t eat the hay. Then the hay ,then the fox.
Take the fox then the stack of hay after take the sheep.
Take the fox first then the sack of hay then the sheep
We love the blog!!!!!! It’s brilliant !!!
We wonder who has really good answers???
;)- 🙂
I’d take the sheep first because then it can’t eat the hay and the fox can’t eat the sheep!
The fox won’t eat the hay because it doesn’t eat things like that.
Then the hay because it would only take a little while to get to the sheep and back if you do this you can’t leave the sheep alone with the fox at any time!
The fox would not wonder of if it knew the right things to do.
Finally you would go back to the fox so you come back to the sheep with the hay (a little eaten) and the fox ready to carry on with his journey!
Or swap the fox and the sheep round so sheep last
